they're baaaaaack! (disney fashion posts)

Happy Friday!

It's been awhile...I mean, A LONG WHILE since I did any Disney fashion posts. A reader told me about this website yesterday and I was inspired to do more.

You see, before, I'd exhausted my list of Disney princesses, so I thought I was done.

But then, I realized that I could do outfits for non-human Disney characters too!

So, today, I give you my interpretation of a modern (human) Nala and a modern (human) Lady/Midge from Lady and the Tramp.

Nala

Nala by aprilanne147 featuring gold jewelry

A modern (human) Nala would always rock the neutrals with a pop of animal print. (faux, of course!) Lion print isn't too popular these days, so I went with a cheetah print. Gold accents and a lion statement ring tie the whole look together.

Lady

Lady by aprilanne147 featuring a long cardigan

Lady, or Midge as she's also known as in the movie, is one of my favorite Disney animals and one of my favorite animal-related Disney movies. (Lady & the Tramp) Lady rocks the neutrals as well (because fur doesn't come in quite the array of colors as synthetic fabrics do) but she accents her outfit with a mustard yellow cardigan and turquoise accessories. Oh, and the bag is from Italy. Which reminds me of my favorite "spaghetti scene" from the movie.

Well, what'd you think about me doing the Disney animal characters? Love it? Hate it? I'd love to hear from y'all! To see all of the Disney posts I've done click here.

Have a happy, happy weekend, friends!

twenty five things

I read this blog last night and thought it might be a great thing to do on MY blog. Though I do realize that y'all are probably sick of hearing about my life and all that stuff, I figured I could squeeze a few more personal posts in there, right? ;)

I'm linking up over at Mary Louise's blog for this personal challenge. Side note: not only does Mary Louise have a cool blog, she's also my cousin IRL. Pretty cool, I think!

Here. We. Go!!!!

1. I hate (and I use the word hate with all the severity ever intended by the word) lettuce.
2. I am a very organized person. However, usually my car is not organized. I don't know why but this is the only area in my life that I can never seem to keep mess-free. Sigh.
3. I really despise when people put political stuff on Facebook. Keep it to yourselves!
4. On the contrary, I do enjoy politics and debating them with people. But not on Facebook. That's lame.
5. I loathe bandwagon things. As a matter of fact, I will purposefully not see a movie, read a book, follow a team, etc. that is popular at the time. There is just something in me that doesn't like "following the crowd".
6. This /\ is probably why as a 27 year old woman, I've had two, yes, two My Little Pony cookie cakes in my adult life.
7. I love football. Other sports, in my opinion, are inferior.
8. I am VERY sarcastic. Sometimes I have to catch myself because I forget that not everyone enjoys a daily dose of it. :)
9. It was so hard for me to pick between two of my favorite colors, that I chose a color that blends the two. (Aqua)
10. I seem to have this internal gauge that allows me to tell when people genuinely compliment me or when they compliment me in order to get or accomplish something.
11. I am obsessed with the following things: perfume, men's cologne (though I don't wear it), magazines, cardigans, ballet flats, chocolate and blogging.
12. I don't eat nuts.
13. I once dressed as Charlie Chaplin for Halloween. What. the. heck. mom!
14. I hardly ever leave the house without mascara. Otherwise I look dead. Seriously.
15. I've been a smartphone owner for less than a year. Yep. Up until Thanksgiving of 2011, I was rocking a feature phone, baby!
16. Socks annoy me. Mine are often mismatched.
17. I'm convinced that people from Ohio and Pennsylvania are moving to North Carolina in DROVES. Buckeyed and Steeled-curtained friends, can I interest you in Georgia? :) (okay, just kidding, no offense to my PA and OH peeps)
18. I've been a brunette, redhead and a blonde before. I'm a natural blonde and there's just something about it that works for me.
19. In my lifetime I will meet Paula Deen and Drew Brees. I just know it!
20. I can't drink Coke Zero. Something about it absolutely tears my stomach up. It gives me horrible stomach cramps and pain. But it is so good!
21. I'm really awesome at the game Cranium because I can hum well, sort of draw and spell things backward.
21. Speaking of backward, I can recite the alphabet backwards quickly. I've been able to do it since I was really young. But it's not like this will really ever come in handy...
22. I have a HUGE family. (like over 60 first and second cousins)
23. I've had an Ace Ventura-themed birthday party before. Alrighty then!
24. I don't eat weird meats. I'm big on the pig. I chow on the cow and I like lickin' the chicken. Oh and I'm a fan of turkey too. (sorry, not many things rhyme with turkey) But you won't catch me feasting on bison, venison, duck, pigeon or other strange birds, alligator, rattlesnake or deadly reptiles. Also, nothing cuddly, cute and baby. So, no veal or lamb. Yuckola.
25. Most of my favorite flowers are really unusual:  ranunculus, himalayan poppy and plumeria. Of course, then I also love the traditional daffodil.

So, there you go. You now know about me and knowledge is power. Consider yourself "learn-ed". :)

Oh, I almost forgot. Come back tomorrow (Friday) for a new DISNEY FASHION POST! YAY!

new job update

Hi friends. Today's post is going to be short and sweet for two reasons...

1) My allergies are really bothering me AND
2) I took 2 benadryl because of it.

So, essentially, this post is a race against time before I succumb to the powers of the diphenhydramine. ;)

(Spoiler alert: I usually write my posts the night BEFORE they publish...so I'm writing this on Monday night. I would not take two benadryl during the day...lest I fall asleep standing up.)

I wanted to update y'all on my new job that started Monday.

Well, it was GREAT! This job is really amazing. I mean, the people I work with are all really nice and everyone seems to work really well together. The job itself, while very fast-paced, is a great mix of challenging tasks and things that really work well within my skill set.

I opened my desk drawer today to a drawer full of new office supplies.

I'm pretty sure I swooned a little bit.

And then I saw the Shout Wipes.

Then I really did swoon.

There were all sorts of little perks that I've never had jobs give me before...gifts, coffee mugs, personalized notepads...everything was just wonderful.

Though the first week will contain a lot of "drinking from the fire hose" I know that once I learn the ropes, it will be great.

I can't wait to go back to work! :) HA!

OOTD: watercolors

I found this top on my weekend shopping trip in the clearance section at Target. What better way to break it in than with an outfit post!?!?

Oh, and please excuse the eyewear. It was quite bright outside. However, one of my fave fashion bloggers almost always wears sunnies in her shots so maybe I'm okay with it...

This shirt reminds me of watercolors. I can wear it with a blue cardigan (as shown), a hot pink cardigan or a purple cardigan...all of which I have.

workwear shopping haul

I recently blogged about how over the last year I've basically been on a shopping freeze for financial reasons. However, since I start my new job tomorrow and it is more of a professional environment than jobs in the past, I knew I needed to stock up on some workwear essentials.

This afternoon, I'm headed to another of my favorite stores to get some dress pants, but yesterday I hit up a few other stores and came back with this haul.

workwear haul

You'll see that I did add 2 more cardigans to my growing stash...however, they were both neutral cardis that will help in the wardrobe remixing. I have a lot of colorful cardis but sometimes lack in the neutral department.

The black blazer and brown flats are also neutral purchases that go with many things in my closet. The two fun shells will be great under cardigans or blazers. The purple one was on clearance and is actually a bit more of a purple/blue subtle print but this one was the closest I could find.

I can't wait to mix these up and incorporate them into my wardrobe! Yay for new outfit posts!!

Happy Sunday dudes and dudettes.

confessional friday

Happy Friday, friends.

Today is moving day. I'm excited to get to Charlotte. This has been a tough year for me, so I can't wait to see what is in store for me in this next chapter?

Buuuuuuuut before, I should probably share with you some confessions. Okay?

//1. I confess that over the last few days, I've been eating at some of my favorite restaurants in Wilmington. One of my most faves: this one...

MMMMMMmmmmmm.

//2. I confess that I had a hard time accepting people doing nice things for me before I left Wilmington. I'm talking about gifts, meals being paid for, etc. It's difficult for me to accept things from others with no-strings-attached. I feel like I should "earn" these things. Is that weird?

//3. I confess that one of those gifts I got this week was this AMAZING cookie cake from some coworkers.

Yes, that is a My Little Pony cookie cake. Well, more specifically, it's a Rainbow Dash cake. My favorite pony. I heart My Little Pony. And I heart cookie cakes. Win-win!

//4. I confess that I'm pretty nervous about driving a huge moving truck home. I tried to get the smallest one, but there weren't any there. So....yeah... It's probably the only time in my life that I don't want to hear the words, "upgrade for the same price". I don't have 16ft. worth of stuff. I have more like 9 ft. worth of stuff. Sigh.

//5. I confess that I've realized the depth of my cardigan obsession while packing.

Well, that's all my confessing for today. Head over to Leslie's blog to check out other confessions.

Have a wonderful weekend!!

LBD challenge 3

It's time for outfit 3 of the Little Black Dress challenge...where I try to come up with different ways to wear the same little black dress.

Today's outfit incorporates a cardigan, ballet flats (like you're really surprised) and a wide belt.

OOTD: ruffled combo

Today's outfits are about colors and ruffles.

The first outfit is a cute ruffled top I picked up from Target a long time ago. I don't wear it a whole lot, but every once in awhile, I'll bring it out. It's very happy.

And, can't you tell I matched my hair to my ruffles? ;)

Again, here's one of my favorite color combos. Navy, lime green and white. SO preppy and pretty. Though, now that I'm seeing this, I don't really feel the outfit... Eh. But I love the colors.

top 5 tuesday: fall loves

I can't wait for fall.

No lie. It's my fave season.

However, to prepare for this fall, there are a few things I need to invest in. You know, because fall wardrobe shopping IS essential. ;)

Here are my top 5 fall loves...

fall wishlist

fall wishlist by aprilanne147 featuring slipper shoes

1. Leopard print: I only have one thing that is leopard print. (GASP!) I'm thinking this cutie dress or bag from one of my favorite stores is in my immediate future.

2. Light brown boots: I only have a pair of black boots. I really want a pair of light brown, camel or cognac colored boots. These, that have a bit of a wedge heel, would do quite nicely. ;)

3. Polka-dotted/printed scarves: Always a must! I love this particular polka-dotted one.

4. Animal print slippers: I'll admit that it took me awhile to get to where I like these slipper shoes. At first, they remind me of something The Hef would wear. Now, I just think they are cute.

5. Colored blazers: I've said this before, but now, more than ever, I need some!

What are some of your fall wardrobe favorites?

over the weekend

Hi there friends.

In keeping with the theme of more "life posts" I'm sharing some of the happenings from the weekend. ;)

I started off the weekend a bit low-key. That IS my style after all... (and no, this isn't one of those "posed" Instagram shots...because Hewitt wasn't in it. HAHA!)

On Saturday morning, I headed downtown with a friend. I had no real reason for going other than just to walk around...and eat at Kilwins. :) It was my last weekend in Wilmington so I wanted to go downtown one more time. Below are some pretty shots I took of the courthouse and the Memorial Bridge/Isabella Holmes Bridge over the river.

I spent the better portion of the weekend hanging out with this little guy. Presh.

My roommate and I gave ourselves manicures. I went with a reddish pink and a glittery ring finger nail. So posh, right? HEH. I call it my party nails. Though I am not planning on attending any parties soon...

My weekend was surprisingly full though I didn't even do everything I'd planned. A friend's B-Day party was Saturday night but I missed it because I wasn't feeling too well the latter part of the day.

On Sunday night my roommate and I hosted my roommate's new roommate over for dinner. (Is that confusing? This is my replacement. The person moving into my room). They just moved to Wilmington this weekend and we hosted a welcome dinner at our place.

What better way to immerse a Yankee (from PA) to the southern culture than with southern food?! I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes and we had steamed veggies and banana pudding. Yum!

Hmmm...I think that's most of my weekend. The only other parts consisted of FINALLY getting my roommate to love New Girl as much as I do. This is a great day, friends. I now have someone to quote the show with.

Today, I'll leave you with a quote or two from New Girl. I have no idea when the show starts back up this fall, but you should find out and plan on watching it. It's ridiculously funny.

Nick [regarding the office]: It smells like leather and Teddy Roosevelt and wistfulness.

Schmidt [regarding the hutch Jess found]: Get rid of it, Jess. Pine has no place in this loft. It's the wood of poor people and outhouses.

confessional friday

Happy Friday, friends!

I'm gonna get right to it today.

//1. I confess that no matter how broke I am, I'll always have a few extra dollars for fresh flowers. I just love 'em. Flowers are my fave! The future Mr. G will have to bring me flowers on the regular. Heh.

//2. I confess that I said "Bless you" to my dog when he sneezed and it was the SECOND time I did it that I stopped and caught myself. #smh

//3. I confess that most of my life is currently in boxes. That's the worst part of moving. Packing your life into boxes and bins. Sigh.

//4. I confess that I'm scared to DEATH that I'll have bad kids one day. Does anyone else worry about that? What if my kids are like the ones on Maury that go to boot camp?

//5. I confess that I'll catch a slightly maternal urge every once in awhile. Sometimes it's with my dog. Sometimes it's when I see little tow-headed girls with beetle haircuts and pink glasses wearing leotards and rainboots in Walmart. :)

//6. I confess that I've been stalking these for a few weeks now. They are versatile AND cheap. These will be added to my wardrobe with my first paycheck. YYEEESSS!!!

Womens Lower East SideWomen's Chelsea Flat

Oh, and these too..

Womens Lower East SideWomen's Chelsea Flat

//7. I confess that I can re-watch episodes of New Girl and still find hilarious things I missed watching the first few times. Seriously. It is so funny.

I'm linking up with Leslie at A Blonde Ambition for Confessional Friday. Head on over and check out the other confessions.

Have a wonderful weekend!
