Over the Weekend

Over the weekend, there were all sorts of shenanigans. College football watching - sausage dip consuming - nature walks - plaid shirts - picnic lunch - shopping - and much more! I'm linking up my weekend recap with Sami and Syndal and I've posted a few of the weekend photos below!

It was finally cool enough this weekend to rock my new gingham shirt. Y'all I'm obsessed! I loved it so much. I kind of want to get more since they have new prints now... :)

Hewitt is a sleepy scientist. He loves the sun and literally moves with it to sleep all over the house.

M and I explored this GORGEOUS local state park nearby on Sunday afternoon. It's about 30 min from where I live and right on the river. How beautiful!!

We packed a picnic lunch, Hewitt and our hiking shoes and spent the afternoon in the beautiful scenery enjoying the awesome weather.

While we were eating, we noticed another furry-ish friend joined us. He was just walking on our picnic cooler minding his own business. I removed him and put him in a nearby tree. M was weirded out by him. HA!

Always one of us is doing a funny face and the other is doing a normal one. Also, you'll notice I've retired my Loreal Sublime Bronze Towelettes for the season. :)

Hewitt was patrolling the water and the shoreline for large birds and squirrels.

What did you do this weekend?

Things I Love Thursday: Fall Edition

Yes, it's officially Fall. I figured, why not do a Things I Love Thursday post that's fall themed in honor of my favorite season!?!?

First, off let me start with this hilarious image I've seen all over Pinterest and Tumblr. As much as I love fall, I'm not quite this bad....

Complementary Colors

I love the idea of putting a branch of colored leaves into a vase for quick and easy fall decor.

Too bad it's still so hot out here in So Cal

So pretty! If only September were cool here...

Fall is a favorite season for many of us. Who can resist the beauty of the orange glow of pumpkins, the falling leaves and the much anticipated cool weather? http://www.scottsdalerealestatearizona.com/fall-love-season-fall-cleaning-tips/

I now own two plaid, flannel shirts. And I LOVE them. Who AM I??

Start thinking about those fall layers now!

Layers, brights and ballet flats for the fall. This is so me!

OOTD: Pleather Peplum

I posted about my newfound love for peplum recently and I'm proud to say that I've incorporated a new peplum piece into my wardrobe. It's another peplum top but it's black with a pleatherish peplum. The best part? It was only $16. Holla!

So, as a "curvy" lady, I wondered if wearing peplum would just make me look bigger because it would emphasize my hips...the widest part of my body. However, I think this sort of works. It over-emphasizes something so it kind of makes the rest look, um, proportionate? Maybe that's just wishful thinking. But I do think the peplum sort of gives me curves in a good way. Whoa...that's a lot body-positive talk there, people. I don't know if I can take it. :)

So, would you ever try peplum?

Lists and Lists

I'm a list person. At any given time I have a few running lists. I have multiple notebooks in which I put my lists and my lists vary in topic from work-related tasks to personal errands.

Currently, I am working on lists for:

  • My work tasks (a to-do list)
  • This year's Christmas gifts (for friends and family)
  • Short-term (this calendar year) future planning goals and tasks
  • A grocery list
  • A list of things I need to do around the house
  • My favorite dog names

Are you a list person? What sort of lists do you keep?

Emmys Fashion Re-Cap

Man, I love a good awards show. It's a great time to see the best and worst dressed in Hollywood.

Oh, and watch some people win awards too. :)

Below are some of my picks for best and worst dressed of the night!

BEST DRESSED

Tina Fey, Emmy Awards, 2013

Tina Fey in Narciso Rodriguez
Sister, killed it! The color is amazing, the fit is perfect and her hair and makeup are on point. For a quirky comedian who sometimes tries to make her wardrobe part of her routine, she nailed it with this classic, elegant look.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Emmy Awards, 2013

Julia Louis-Dreyfus in Monique Lhuillier
This was a stunning dress on stage. Though her acceptance speech was weird (I'm assuming she was in character from her role on Veep) she look absolutely amazing. This lady truly gets better with age.

Elisabeth Moss, Emmy Awards, 2013

Elisabeth Moss in Andrew Gn
Something about the combination of this dress and her awesome hair just really works for me. Maybe it's the contrast of fussy and messy but I love this look. Also, the red lip...perfecto!

Linda Cardellini, Emmy Awards, 2013

Lindsay Cardellini in Donna Karan
The color and fit are perfection. I love that she continued the swingy, flowy look of the dress with her hairstyle.

Vera Farmiga, Emmy Awards, 2013

Vera Farmiga
I LOVE the sleeves and belt on this dress. It's edgy, yet Emmy-appropriate. I even love her funky hair with this dress. A+!

WORST DRESSED

Michelle Dockery in Prada
Normally, I'm a huge fan of hers but this look just didn't do it for me. It too hokey...literally...Hokie. Like the college. Also, can we please, PLEASE stop with the high-low hem? I'm over it.

Kate Mara, Emmy Awards, 2013

Kate Mara in J. Mendel
Just no. I loathe the white shoes and the top looks like a bad 80s Madonna costume. That, plus the weird hair makes this whole look a big "no".

Merritt Wever, Emmy Awards

Merritt Wever
Though I loved her acceptance speech, I thought this look was a little boring and way too old for her. I appreciate the vintage nod with the hair but the dress is just a bleh. And it doesn't appear to fit very well either.

Cat Deeley, Emmy Awards, 2013

Cat Deeley in Armani
First off, I'm surprised that this came from someone as reputable and tenured as Armani. Secondly, who in the heck would WANT to emphasize their saddlebags?!?! No.

OTHER COMMENTS

January Jones, Emmy Awards, 2013Claire Danes, Emmy Awards, 2013Julie Bowen, Emmy Awards, 2013
Anna Gunn, Emmy Awards, 2013Rose Byrne, Emmy Awards, 2013Cobie Smulders, Emmy Awards, 2013
Carrie Preston

Well, I guess EVERYONE didn't get the blush/pale pink memo. But lots of ladies certainly did.

Carrie Underwood, Emmy Awards, 2013 Allison Williams, Emmy Awards, 2013Jessica Pare, Emmy Awards, 2013Ariel Winter, Emmy Awards 2013

There also seemed to be an abundance of prom dresses. This is the Emmy's, not a high school prom or formal. Also, I love Carrie, but that dress with the crystal Y necklace is straight up 2003 prom. These ladies deserve a female version of ESPN's "Come on man!"

Kate Mara, Emmy Awards, 2013Laura Dern, Emmy Awards, 2013Lena Headey, Emmy Awards, 2013

Lastly, there was the pink memo, then there was the sheer memo. It was madness! ;)

What did you think of the Emmys fashion? Was there any that you loved or hated?

Confessional Friday

Dang, it's finally Friday. This has been a LOOONNNNGGGG week, has it not?

1. I confess that I am obsessed with infographics. I don't know why information is so much cooler when put into a cool illustration, but to me that is a WAY more awesome method of delivering information.

Guide to Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors-A visual guide to Ben & Jerry's best ice cream flavors

How about an infographic on the guide to Ben & Jerry's ice cream flavors? You're welcome.

2. I confess that I still don't know which fantasy quarterback to play this week. When I go through my normal "predicament settling equations" I usually come out with a clear winner but not so much this week. Except in the looks equation. Tony Romo is a lot more attractive than Matt Schaub...but then...I dislike Dallas. So...I'm back to where I started. Sigh.

3. I confess that when I got a $25 gift card to Target this week, I giggled like a little school girl and prompty scoured their website for at least an hour, looking for deals. I've got to make good on this windfall. :D

4. I confess that it made my little heart happy when eShakti tweeted one of my outfit photos!

5. I confess that I ate a lot (read 3) Lean Cuisine chicken alfredo meals for lunches this week. I guess that's not really a confession. But the fact that I instagrammed my meal and tagged @LeanCuisine to see if I could get a response and maybe some coupons, certainly is. #shameface #yesIusedahashtaginablogpost

6. I confess that I ALMOST (read....not exactly but came very close to) crying when I realized my local (favorite) grocery store was closing. Now there will just be an empty black shell of sadness on the corner.

7. Finally, I confess that I think something is wrong with the calculator thingamajig on my C25k app because yesterday it said I ran a 1:09 minute mile. Um??? Yeah. I don't think that could happen if I was running on top of a speeding car. But I don't want it to get better and be fixed. I like living in the belief that I'm an incredibly fast runner and I'm the next undiscovered female Usain Bolt. Or whatever his name is.

Okay, and on that note, I'm done. I'm linking up my confessions with Mrs. Leslie. I wish you all a very happy weekend!

Special shout out to my mom (hi mom!!) because today is her birthday. Happy Birthday mom!
