Wedding Wednesday: The Reception

I was looking back over all of my wedding posts and I realize I never did a post dedicated soley to the reception. So, without further adieu...

Our reception was atypical and different from many traditional receptions. We opted to take more of a "vintage" approach (read...popular in the 30s, 40s and 50s) and do light snacks/desserts/drinks immediately after the ceremony in the church lobby area. Since our wedding was at 2pm, we weren't planning on feeding people, but we did want to have a wide variety of my and M's favorite snacks/foods there for others to enjoy. The basic set up idea (also mentioned in this post) was that we would have 4 tables: a cake table, a milk & cookies table, a candy buffet and a "MAN" table that contained all of the salty and "manly" snacks that M loves like beef jerky, pretzels, chips, party mix, etc. I love the sweet stuff and M loves the salty stuff so this is how we compromised. :)

Each table was set up with a different color theme...all corresponding with my three wedding colors: navy, green and pink. The MAN table was set up in homage to M's love for hunting with a camo/hunting theme. I purchased paper table runners in navy stripe, pink stripe and green stripe and then did a hunting camo runner for the man table. These runners were placed over regular white tablecloths. Paper goods and other decor on the tables corresponded with the colors. The cake table was navy, the cookies & milk table was green and the candy table was pink. (Pictures below) (Putting a break in this post so it doesn't fill up my entire homepage.)

We intentionally kept things light at the reception and didn't serve alcohol. Drinks were mini bottles of water and mini cans of drinks (Coke, Dr. Pepper, etc.). Can you tell that I'm kind of obsessed with mini things? Each of our tables and their food are listed below.

Milk & Cookies Table: Oreos (our faves!!) that were stacked to resemble a cake-like structure, chocolate chip cookies, oatmeal raisin cookies, M&M cookies, peanut butter cookies and sugar cookies. We also had a small platter of sugar-free cookies for my diabetic family. We had large glass beverage dispensers of 2% and Skim milk along with wide-mouth cups for dipping! :)

Candy Buffet: M&Ms, jelly beans, Sour Patch Kids, Hershey's miniatures, Sour Brite Crawlers, pink gumballs and Skittles. We had a bowl of sugar-free candy at this table as well.

Man Table: Pretzels, sunflower seeds, pub/party mix (Chex Mix), Slim Jims an Jack Links in assorted flavors.

Drinks: We borrowed 2 huge galvanized steel tubs that we filled with ice and the water bottles, Dr. Pepper, Diet Dr. Pepper, Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Sprite, Mountain Dew and Diet Pepsi.

The cake table contained only the cake. We had a sheet cake that was cut in the back and brought out and placed on the cake table once we cut the wedding cake. The only photos I have of that table are the ones we had when we cut the cake. :)

Lastly, I'll leave you with a few fun "crowd" shots of our wedding. We so enjoyed spending some time with the people we love the most. It was a great day for sure!
