Thoughts on 30

In less than 6 months, I will be turning 30

I want to do something fun and different to commemorate entering into my third decade of life. I'm not a huge birthdaypalooza person. Meaning, I celebrate my birthday with maybe a nice dinner out or my fave homecooked dinner and cake. I'm not really a huge "go out and celebrate" person.

With that said, I do want to "go out and celebrate" this special birthday. I feel like doing something out of the norm and a kind of special. With my birthday being in January, I have to start planning things early because there is no time to plan after Christmas is over ANNNNDDD because I'm a planner and can't stand to do things last minute.

Here are some ideas I've been toying with.

1. Glamour City
Some friends and fam get dressed up and go into uptown Charlotte for drinks, appetizers and maybe fondue...one of my absolute favorites.

2. Petting Zoo
This has been a lifelong dream ever since I saw it on Mrs. Doubtfire. I want to have a petting zoo at my birthday party...however...having a birthday in January usually poses a problem.

3. Creative
I envision this to be something along the lines of pottery painting, jewelry making or maybe a cooking/pastry class session. IDK. Something fun and out of the ordinary.

4. Show/Party
Something along the lines of a jewelry, clothing or makeup party that is hosted by a particular company (like Mary Kay, Stella and Dot, Pampered Chef, etc.). Do this up with apps and drinks but keep it at the house.

5. Trip
Somewhere I've not been like Vegas, NYC or maybe out west somewhere. Cali?? Seattle? Explore more places in TX? There are so many options! This is obviously the most expensive route.

Those of you that have already had a 30th birthday, did you do anything special to celebrate it? Or did you just do a normal birthday thing? Please share...I'd love to know! :)

  1. Dressing up and goign out in Charlotte sounds like a lot of fun. I also like the idea of a party at your house. Do you have any places that do painting and wine—we have this company called painting with a twist locally.

However, if you want to come to Austin, I happen to know someone who can recommend some fabulous places! The weather in January is mild and there would be lots to do.

No matter what you do, you will have fun. I was terrified of turning 30, but have found I am loving my 30’s so far.

  2. MFD and my family and friends threw me an enormous surprise party with my favorite band and I actually had the flu that day but it was awesome nonetheless. LOL

I celebrate my birthday all month so I say pick a few of these and have at it! The petting zoo might be a better thing for your half birthday, weather-wise. LOL

Seven years into the 30s, this has been my favorite decade by far.

  3. I turn 30 next year and seeing your list, I realize that "hey! maybe I want to go travel somewhere for my birthday too!" So thank you for that! I hope that whatever you choose for your awesome birthday that it rocks your world!

  4. I like 1, 2 or 5. Or 4, if it's a real party, but not a Mary Kay or similar party. That and the creative option are just too routine.

You need to do something special and out of the ordinary for 30. I will think on this some for you.

  5. Just turned 30 last week! I didn't do anything special, but I am going to pamper myself shamelessly at a local spa. Plus, I got enough gift certificates there to make two visits! I think it needs to be a reflection of how you like to spend your time. Good Luck!

  6. All of this has been duly noted.

I'm thinking 1 is most do-able. But I also like the idea of traveling somewhere.

I'll gladly plan this for you once you nail down ideas. Let's get a PPC together!
