The start of awards season has begun! Last night, one of the largest awards ceremonies, The Golden Globes took place and the stars were out in full force! There was a LOT of black and gold (perhaps a late tribute to my befallen Saints??) and lots of high-low hem...much to my chagrin. :)
Below are some of my fashion best and worst pics of the night.
BEST
Julianna Margulies in Andrew Gn
I love everything about this dress. Julianna looked amazing and I loved her hair and makeup. The silhouette of this dress is stunning and simple and elegant. A+!

Margot Robbie
This dress was much more stunning as a close-up and this picture doesn't do it justice. I love the clean lines and the green shoes are the icing on the cake!

Monica Potter in Romona Keveza
Another beautiful interpretation of black and gold. Monica's hair, earrings and tan are absolutely on point. I've honestly not seen her look better.

Michelle Dockery in Oscar de la Renta
Even though I don't love the high-low hem in general, I love Michelle's dress enough to get over it. The color, the pattern and her beautiful pale skin are gorgeous. I also love her that her hair and makeup are both soft and feminine here. She's resorted to more masculine hairstyles in the past, but here, everything just works!

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera
Ah Swifty. Normally, she just gets on my nerves, but this dress was gorgeous. I loved the color combination and also the unique, asymmetrical silhouette of the dress. This pinned-up, soft hairstyle was all over the red carpet and Taylor's was one of my favorite versions.

Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein
Gosh, she's just amazing. I can't even. This dress is a gorgeous color, the fit is PERFECTION and her sassy and swingy bob hair cut is so pretty. She looks classy and timeless without looking old.

Olivia Wilde in Gucci Premiere
Olivia makes pregnancy look SEXY! This is one of the best pregnancy dresses I've ever seen. It looks beautiful, radiant and sexy without looking too racy. The green color was gorgeous and stood out amongst a sea of black and pale colors. I almost always love Olivia's style choices and this one was no different.

WORST
Hayden Panettiere in Tom Ford
The neckline of this dress really emphasizes Hayden's wide shoulders and gives her a much more masculine body silhouette than she actually has. That, plus the slicked-back hair (which I am almost NEVER a fan of) just didn't work.

Edie Falco
I don't even know where to start on this one. The color - rusty red? It's a no. The fabric - satin? No. The fit - horrible. The bow - No. Each element on it's own would be fine but all together doesn't work. I honestly, for a second, thought she was pregnant when I first saw this. That's never a good sign when picking a dress.

Kaley Cuoco in Rani Zakhem
Sigh. I was really rooting for her. After all, she did just get married in a pink wedding dress, so I was expecting big things. This dress just missed the mark. This background color of this print is too close to her skin color and it is way too low on "the girls".

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
This was hard for me to write because y'all know how much I love Zooey, but...dang. This whole ensemble was just bad. It was very sweet and girly but not Golden Globe-worthy. I wish the skirt was just a dress and that horrid crochet-looking crop top were gone. Maybe I'd like that more. Also the flower? No ma'am. That's way 2002.
But I do love the shoes. :) These shoes are KILLER!
Drew Barrymore in Monique Lhullier
Oh Drew. Pregnancy looks good on you...but not in this ensemble. Take a cue from Olivia and try something a little more form-fitting with a few less...floral appliques.

What were some of your faves or loathes? What did you think of the black and gold or high-low hem trends this year?
oh girl. i watched the whole thing last night - red carpet and all - (after the niners won, of course) and the whole time i was thinking WWAT - what would april think?
ReplyDeleteand i am almost 100% with you on all of these.
i liked zooey, but knew it was a bit risky (i wish it had a reg hem, then i'd be more defensive of her)
hayden - i love that cut of dress - but not on her.
and drew. oh drew. i cringed the whole time watching her.
julianna, margot, and lupita (with that stunning red ralph lauren) were by far my top 3. :)
great recap, girl!
Great choices, I loved Julianna Margulies as well. Julia Roberts got a thumbs down, but I loved it! The fashion was kinda ho hum to me but Lupito, rocked it in that Ralph Lauren.

I agree/cringe at all of your worsts.
ReplyDeleteMonica Potter did look gorgeous. I wanted to like Michelle Dockery but I detest the high low hemline.
Zooey doesn't even look like herself!
