snack recipe: pretzel hugs

I'm such a salty & sweet person. I absolutely love mixing my M&Ms INTO my popcorn at the movie theater. (I know...) But I don't think I'm the only one. I know there are some of you out there who are just as crazy about salty & sweet stuff as I am.

Luckily for you (and me) I'm sharing this, here, recipe. (sorry, reverted to redneck speak for a sec) It's quick, delicious, portable and looks pretty impressive when finished.

PRETZEL HUGS

Ingredients:
1 bag of pretzel "snaps" (the square, grid looking ones...regular pretzels won't work nearly as well)
1 bag of M&Ms candy (plain, not peanut, works best)
1 bag of Hershey's Hugs candy

Directions:
Preheat oven to 200 degrees.
Arrange pretzels on a foil-lined cookie sheet.
Unwrap Hugs and place one on each pretzel.
Heat in oven for about 6 minutes (or until the Hugs are soft and NOT melted).
Remove from oven and top with one M&M candy.

Press the M&M down so you smush, yes I said smush, the Hugs a little bit.
Be careful not to let the Hugs seep over the pretzel.
Let cool and re-harden a few hours. It's best to let it re-harden overnight but you could pop them in the fridge to speed up the process.
Enjoy.

NOTES: Sorry for the photo quality...these were taken with my phone. Also, I had a TON of M&Ms and pretzels leftover, so maybe you could use 2 bags of Hugs. Lastly, I didn't let me Hugs get quite as soft as they should be to avoid the dreaded "seepage".

Oh, and everytime I take them somewhere, they're a huge hit. Not only for eating...take a look at what transpired last night. :) My friend, Jill, found a new and creative use for them.

  1. I love these! I make them at Christmas using red and green m&ms. I also usually make them with milk chocolate hershey kisses.

  2. I've done those with rolos and M&M's- the caramel and the salt is always a winner :) p.s. I'm loving the new layout/banner/overall design! Where did you get or make it?

  3. Kate,

I got this one as a complete template for a quick fix. I'm going to tweak the HTML soon to make it 2 columns. I got it at The Cutest Blog On the Block. :)
