Here are the Top 5 Fall Fashion Trends (for normal people):
1. Colorblock. Though my illustrations are women's shirts, color blocking is gender-neutral trend for fall. BTW, that blue boatneck shirt was cute enough to get me off my heiney and head straight to my local Old Navy to buy it. SO CUTE!
3. Sweaters. Sweaters are huge again this year for men and women. For men, you'll find lots of argyle this fall. (again) Ladies, the word of the fall is texture and more specifically, crochet. I know, I know, didn't we just talk about crochet for the summer? Well, it's baaaacccckkk!
4. Plaid Shirts. The Western shirt trend is big this fall again. Guys, I just don't understand...why do you want to look like a rancher when you're hauling your toddlers around in a minivan with your wife's Vera Bradley diaper bag? Personally, if you don't work on a ranch, farm, or laborous environment (read: if you have an office job) then why wear this? Anywho, the good news is that other plaid shirts are also popular (not the Western kind). These, I can really appreciate. They are very nice and classic without looking like an extra out of True Grit. On the left, the Western shirt...on the right, a much more (in my opinion) classic approach to this trend. The differences are subtle but are mostly color choices and the additional front pocket.< /rant>
5. Desert Shoes. OMG. I had a pair of these in the early-90s and I loved them. However, I'm not sure if I'm going to jump on the wagon this time around. Desert shoes, brogans, etc are way big this fall. I remember spraying mine with Scotchgard to make sure they didn't get wet and praying for no rain the next day. I'm not sure if technology has improved upon this problem this time around or not. We'll have to see. On the left is a female wedge version and the male version on the right.

So hearing you on the "Not quite sure if I'm loving fall fashions" but I super duper like that blue boatneck from Old Navy (which means I'll just HAVE to go out and buy it...darn). I don't know how I feel about the really wide-leg flares because they tend to make me look like a weebul because I'm so short, but I'm definitely welcoming the return of flares! i love love sweaters, but I definitely prefer the men's shirt on the right to the one on the left. The shoes, though, I'm not sure if I could do it. We'll see how daring I am during my next shopping trip.

ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to getting some wide leg jeans for church. They just seem a bit nicer than flare/bootcut or skinny jeans (as a curvy girl, I am shocked by how much I love skinny jeans!).
Aren't sweaters always in for cool weather? I like crochet details but I'm not a fan of the all over crochet look (unless it's actually handmade).
Western style shirts look like costumes to me. Plaid in general looks juvenile to me. I love it on my kids but not on myself or my husband.
I thought desert shoes were ugly in the 90s and I still think they're ugly. I think it's the color. Those same shoes in black or gray are cute.
