On Music

I love music.

Even though music was my job for many years, I still love it and often find myself having physical reactions to songs or getting swept up into a song so much that I forget what's going on around me.

I also have a pretty eclectic taste in music. With that, here are some observations on music I've made.

1. I tend to like songs over artists (meaning, I like some songs from artists but wouldn't go as far to say that I love everything that artist has done).

2. I think Christina Aguilera has one of the greatest voices of my generation. Yes, she is weird and yes, she's made some questionable outfit choices. (who hasn't??) She has one of the only voices that can literally give me goosebumps.

3. I love when musical artists from different genres collaborate on a song together or perform together. I loved seeing Heart perform with Fergie from the BEP. I mean, who knew Fergie could REALLY sing? What about when Carrie Underwood sang with Orianthi at the Grammys? And what about this one? Also, the Holy Grail song with JT and Jay-Z...I'm obsessed!

4. Music can move me to tears. Easily. There are some videos or songs I hear that literally get the tear ducts a-flowin'.

5. I tend to enjoy male and female singers with husky, gritty or smoky voices like: Dana Glover, Amos Lee, Ray LaMontagne, Ben Harper and Eric Clapton.

What about you? What are some musical observations you've made about yourself?
