mint: homemade body scrub

So, not too long ago I started growing some Sweet Mint. (I'm not sure if it's any different from regular mint...but that's just what growing label said.) I love the way it smells and fully anticipated on using the leaves for cooking, flavoring and maybe just as an aromatic decor piece.

However, I had no idea that this stuff grows so quickly. I'm literally having to pull off shoots of this stuff and root in water to give away. I'm at a loss as to what I can do with all of my mint, so I've been perusing the good ole' WWW for ideas. I'm going to share some of these ideas with you from time to time. And hey, if you're local, PLEASE let me give you some mint. :)

The first mint project is a little tweak on something I've been doing for a few years.

Sweet Mint Foot & Body Scrub

This exfoliating and moisturizing body scrub is perfect to use year round on your feet, legs, elbows or arms.

Ingredients:
Granulated sugar (about 1 cup)
Baby Oil (1/4 of a cup)
7-10 Medium-Sized Fresh Mint Leaves (chopped up or torn into small pieces)

In a small sealable container (I used Rubbermaid TakeAlongs for liquids because they have a screw on lid)
1. Spread an even layer of sugar and then add a layer of mint leaf pieces over the top.
2. Cover with some of the baby oil.
3. Repeat steps 1 & 2.
4. Repeat steps 1 & 2 again but use the rest of the baby oil on top.

Seal container and store in a cool, dry place. (like under your bathroom cabinet)

If you have any ideas about using mint, leave me a comment!

Happy scrubbing!

  1. I've always loved a sprig of mint in iced tea and lemonade. So refreshing for the summer. My mom used to have a mint plant when I was a kid. It grew like crazy!
