splurge vs. steal

[Splurge vs. Steal is a series about affordable fashion every Wednesday in September on A Little of This and That.]

If you're anything like me and pour over fashion magazines frequently, you quickly realize that unless you've got a Sugar Daddy (or Mommy), you can probably, maybe, afford one item featured in a magazine editorial spread. However, it's not necessary to spend a lot of money to mimic the looks you see in magazines, because you can often find similar looking items for a lot less. Thus the creation of ths blog series.

One of the outfits below is a splurge at around $2,427.00. The other is a steal at around $93.00. Can you guess which one is the steal and which one is the deal?

splurge vs. steal
The outfit on the left is the splurge and the one on the right is the steal. How'd you do? This is just more proof that you don't have to spend a lot of moolah to look cool-ah. (Heh. I tried...)

  1. I already like this series. However, $90 is still A LOT to some of us. I bet I could make the same outfit from thrift store finds. In an alternate universe I would be motivated enough to have a blog. And I would link to my version of the outfit right here. : )

  2. True, Amie. You probably wouldn't have to spend the whole amount either because you might already have some of the elements like the jeans or the tank too.

Yes, thrifting is an art in-and-of-itself. Unfortunately, I've still not mastered it yet.

  3. Love it! I think if I could get one thing off the splurge half, it would have to be the bag...it could be mixed and matched with so many things I already own. Great post!

  4. The camel and hunter green are so perfect for the military trend right now. I'm so in love with the outfits you put together and are the flats on the splurge side from Old Navy? If so, I ALMOST BOUGHT THEM!!!

  5. The flats on the left (Splurge) side are Alexander McQueen but the ones on the right (Steal) side are from Old Navy. I bought a pair just like them this past weekend. I LOVE them!
